On Thursday, March 5th, Brookwood Special Olympics will host the Viroqua Sparks in basketball. It’s usually a very fun (and entertaining) experience. We will play two games, the first starting at 6:15, the second game to follow. I hope you can make it and cheer on these awesome athletes!


National Honor Society applications are due to Mrs. Nemec no later than 8:15 AM on Monday, February 24th. (This includes letters of recommendations.) Late applications will not be accepted.

7-12 FFA Members:  Don’t forget to sign up for the Snow Tubing Trip ($5) or the Cornhole Tournament (FREE) during FFA Week!

Attention SENIORS:  Your graduation cap/gown/announcements will be delivered at school on THURSDAY, FEB. 27th @ 8:07-8:30 am. Please make arrangements to pick up your items on delivery day. Kids Night Out:  The Brookwood 8th Grade Leadership team will be hosting an activity night (games, movie, open gym) for grades 6-8 on Friday, February 28, 2020 from 6-9pm.  There will be a $2 admission, with $1 popcorn, $1 soda, and $0.50 baked goods.  All proceeds will be donated to Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep.  The Mission of NILMDTS offers the gift of healing, hope and honor to parents experiencing the death of a baby through the overwhelming power of a free gift of professional remembrance portraits. Summer Job Opportunity:  The US Census is looking for workers (at least 18 years old) to help with the 2020 Census from March through July. There is a great need for bilingual workers. Pay is $17 per hour. See Mrs. Nemec if interested – more information to come soon.

Summer Job Opportunity:  Volk Field:  Assistance feeding the troops several weeks over the summer months. Starting weekly pay is $15.38/hour. Previous experience in a mess hall or restaurant is preferred, but willing to train. Must be 18 years old and able to access base at Volk Field in Camp Douglas (no open court cases). Contact Nancy Haager Jones (616-304-5682) at Choice Services Inc who holds the contract.


This week’s Student of the Week is EMILY BEVER. Emily treats everyone with respect and doesn’t judge people by their outer appearances. She is an advocate for those who are bullied and put down by others. Whenever she sees a need in Choir she takes the initiative and organizes people to get things done.  Way to go, Emily!!

 


SCHOOL COUNSELOR ANNOUNCEMENTS: 
  • The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse is excited to host Latinx Visit Day & Parent College on SATURDAY, APRIL 25, 2020. This day is designed to give students and their families a chance to learn about the opportunities and services at UWL as well as empower parents by giving them knowledge of the U.S. educational system and what they need to know to prepare students for future college and university careers. Presentations will be in Spanish. Translators will be available. Lunch and transportation will be provided! RSVP to Nidia Alcantar at 608-633-5682
  • Students who wish to take FALL Start College Now or Early College Credit Program courses, need to submit their completed applications absolutely no later than the end of the school day on Monday, March 2nd. Applications can be picked up from and returned to Mrs. Nemec.  
  • Western Technical College is offering a Certified Nursing Assistant Course that runs April 27th through June 18th, 2020 on Monday, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 PM until 10:00 PM in Sparta.  It is FREE to students!  If you are interested, please contact Mrs. Nemec.  Spots will fill up soon!
  • SENIORS:There are multiple scholarship opportunities for you, so make sure that you fill out the applications. Local scholarships are due in March and April. Please pay attention to deadlines. Make sure to check your college’s website for additional scholarships offered through them.
  • JUNIORS:Please remember to turn in your Junior Conference forms that were mailed to you in December. Mrs. Nemec is currently scheduling appointments.

Spring sports are only weeks away from beginning.  Sign-ups for HS Track, HS Softball, HS Baseball, and JH Track will be in the office shortly.  NOTE:  If you have not yet participated in athletics this school year, and you plan to participate in a spring sport, contact Mr. Clinton ASAP to make sure what you need to submit.
