The final days of the 2018-19 school year are here.  It has been a challenging year in dealing with the weather and getting the state required instructional hours to our students.  As challenging as the weather has been for us here at the school, I know many of you individually have been challenged far more over this time.  I understand your homes and businesses have suffered.  Through all of this, I extend best wishes to your own personal recovery and I appreciate your support of the school over this time.  Thank you.

Operationally and Instructionally, here are some highlights of what has happened over the course of the past year.

  • Analyzed, revised and developed school board policies, employee handbooks, and school district notices to meet all legal requirements.
  • Had clean and positive audits by Hawkins & Ash CPA’s of the District’s accounting practices and membership counts.
  • Through grants and school board approved funding, over $100,000 of school security measures and school safety staff trainings have taken place. From the building’s new PA system, extended video surveillance system, and there will be an addition this summer new entrance doors. The safety of the students has been a focus of the Norwalk-Ontario-Wilton School District.
  • Rebid and changed the District’s group health plan for 2019-20.
  • Are moving to replacing the existing athletic field lighting.
  • After twenty years and with the floor tile falling apart, the Falcon Mall Floor is going to get a makeover this summer.
  • Posted and interviewed for a new Jr. & Sr. High Principal. The District hired Angela Funk as the new Jr. & Sr. High Principal starting with the 2019-20 school year.
  • Norwalk-Ontario-Wilton Elementary School was recognized by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction as a School of Recognition. This award is given to high poverty schools that achieve academically at a high level.
  • Continued serving close to 30 families and 90 students through the Falcon Food Pantry.
  • Staff, across all disciplines, had the opportunity to, or were in-serviced, on instructional strategies through CESA #4.
  • The Brookwood Band performed for Veterans and their families at an Honors Flight ceremony at the LaCrosse Airport.
  • The School sponsored an overseas trip to Greece for its students in March.
  • Brookwood Jr. & Sr. High School was one of 22 schools in the State of Wisconsin to receive the WIAA Award of Excellence.
  • The student body and many student organizations were involved in community service activities throughout the school year.
  • Approximately 675 students were supported, served and educated by approximately 110 administrators, teachers, administrative assistants, paraprofessionals, cooks, custodians and bus drivers.

I also want to commend and Thank our many athletic coaches, club advisors, substitute teachers, substitute cooks, substitute custodians and substitute bus drivers who are an integral part of the education provided to our students.

For the 2019-20 school year, the first day of school is Tuesday, September 3.  Back-to-School Night will be held on Thursday, August 29.  As of today, there are no plans to change any of the bus routes for the 2019-20 school year.  If something does change over the summer and if you are affected by that, you will receive a letter, phone call or both.  For the parents with students coming into four year old kindergarten, there will be a meeting with the bus drivers the morning of August 29.  That afternoon, the secretarial staff will contact you with school bus number, school bus driver and the pick-up and drop-off times of your children.

If you need to contact someone at the school over the summer, please call ahead.  The Jr. & Sr. High School Office is shut down in the month of July.  There will be a handful of days when the Elementary/District Office will be shut down as well.  I hope all of you have a relaxing and enjoyable summer.  I will see you all in the fall.
