Romaine Lettuce

On April 13, I read an article on the internet that chopped romaine lettuce grown in Yuma, Arizona could be contaminated with E. coli.  Food Service Manager Vicki Wathke immediately contacted Gordon Foods, who supplies the school district with chopped romaine lettuce.  The Norwalk-Ontario-Wilton School District was receiving chopped romaine lettuce grown in Yuma, Arizona.  That product was immediately removed from being offered for consumption to anyone in the school.  Since April 13, Gordon Foods is supplying the school district initially with iceberg lettuce, and now with romaine lettuce which is grown in California.  Gordon Foods and the Norwalk-Ontario-Wilton School District will continue to monitor this situation.
